Dataedge Professional Services Philosophy:
The Dataedge Services department believes service itself is our product. We
deliver services around things like Tivoli Storage Manager and data storage hardware
and software but the true product is service itself. Service means that we're here to
serve you, our customer. Our goal is not to tell you what you need but rather to ask
questions and find out what your specific needs are, then customize our services
around those requirements. Service means we're here when you need us, however you
need us, all at a reasonable cost.
Why Dataedge? We recognize the importance of having people who take care
of technical issues as well as understanding your business and what you need to
accomplish. Our technical staff is as good as they come technically, and we make
ourselves available when you need us. We enjoy going above and beyond what many have
come to know as standard service business practices.

System Administration
The Dataedge System Administration service provides full management of your TSM
system on a daily basis. The service is customizable and can include:
- Reviewing daily reports to insure that client systems performed prior night’s
backup correctly and we will either resolve issues remotely if possible, or will
work with onsite contacts to resolve problem if onsite assistance is needed.
- Insuring that TSM is operating correctly at each server and that all daily
operations (migrations, backups, database backup and DR) are functioning correctly.
- Providing remote assistance with any data restores that may be required.
- Working closely with and emphasize training of local staff on TSM.
- Assisting local staff as necessary with daily tape handling procedures and issues.
- Installation and configuration of client software.
- Performance tuning of TSM system.
- TSM Support Assistance can be available by phone 8x5 or 24 x 7.
- Research assistance with Sarbanes/Oxley documentation requirements.
- Reviewing of security of backup data.
- Reviewing of data retention policies.
- Review of Disaster Recovery preparedness.
- Customization of reports.
Technical and Administrative Support
- Because our TSM technical staff supports clients all across the United States
in a variety of configurations, we can make your environment more efficient and
reliable by providing you with the highest level of TSM support. The Dataedge
Technical and Administrative support service provides technical phone support on
configuration, diagnostic and administrative questions for your technical staff.
This service is customizable to fit your specific needs and can be available up to
24 x 7.
Health Check/System Review/Performance Tuning
- This service is often used during situations of employee turnover or when the
system has been in place for a significant amount of time. Dataedge will review your
TSM environment and provide you with configuration documentation and performance
tuning recommendations. This service is customizable to include as much of the backup
environment as desired including clients of any operating system, network, data
retention policies, efficiency of data, recovery options, libraries of any type and
TSM servers using any operating system.
Security Evaluation

This service focuses on how secure your backup environment and data handling
procedures currently are and will make recommendations for improvement. We will
provide you with options for securing data at each level along with
advantages/disadvantages of each.
Training

Dataedge provides formal classroom training as well as onsite customizable
instruction that is specifically tailored around your environment. Level 1 and
level 2 training classes are available.
Management and Reporting Customizations
- Dataedge can write custom reports to the specific requirements of your operating
environment.
Data Recovery Assistance
- Because restores are infrequently attempted the process is often hampered by
having to learn how to do it while under the pressure of getting a client system
and/or application back in production. Dataedge can help you avoid this situation by
providing both training and technical phone support specific to the restore processes
on the applications and operating systems in your environment.
Data Retention Analysis
- We can help you determine what data is being protected along with providing
understanding on the data retention policies in TSM that govern how that data is
preserved. This often uncovers critical flaws in important data that isn’t being
backed up or maintained correctly. It will also show what data does not need to be
kept, or that some data does not need to have as many copies, thus extending the life
of your current system and library and reducing costs.

| Disaster Recovery Planning

DR Plan Review
- Dataedge will review your Disaster Recovery plan and provide you with feedback
on areas of strength and areas that may need improvement. We find that many companies
either do not have a good plan or may not test it on a regular basis. Given the dynamic
environment of the IT world, the plan can quickly become antiquated leaving your
organization vulnerable to individual system or departmental failures.
DR Planning
- This customizable service will assist your staff on evaluating not only the
systems and applications in your environment but will work to understand your
business and what will be required to keep it running. We often find that restoring
computer systems and applications is only part of the recovery process and even though
they are up and running, the business may still not be able to operate as needed.
DR Testing
- This service will assist your staff in simulating a full system recovery from
the ground up by recreating the TSM environment using new hardware and offsite copies
of the data. Specific client systems and applications can be restored to new hardware
and brought up to the level of providing services in a lab setting. The lessons learned
in this type of recovery testing are invaluable in keeping your business running after
failures or disasters of any size.
